When this penthouse project first began, the goal was not to create an ultra-modern showpiece or a space that felt cold and untouchable. Instead, our Designer Sibel focused on creating a home that felt elegant, comfortable, and deeply connected to the way her clients actually live. The result is a warm transitional coastal retreat overlooking the ocean, where every room feels inviting, functional, and thoughtfully layered.
For Sibel, this project was especially meaningful, and the relationship quickly evolved into a successful collaboration built on trust, patience, and careful guidance.

Opening Up the View
Located in an older oceanfront building, the penthouse originally had a more closed-off layout that did not fully embrace its surroundings. One of the most impactful design decisions involved reworking the kitchen, dining, and living areas to create a more open flow toward the water views.
Rather than keeping the kitchen tucked away behind walls, Sibel encouraged the clients to open the space and connect it visually to the dining room and living area. As an architect by training, she understood how much the layout itself would affect the feeling of the home. The transformation immediately made the condo feel brighter, larger, and more connected to the ocean beyond the windows.
A Welcoming First Impression
The foyer sets the tone for the rest of the home with a balance of contemporary elegance and artistic flair. A sculptural Victor Console by Elite Modern creates a refined landing point, while the dramatic Skydro Ceiling Light by Artemide brings movement and reflection overhead. Together, they create an entry experience that feels sophisticated without becoming overly formal.
Living Room: Comfortable Luxury with a Coastal Feel
Although Sklar Furnishings is known for modern and contemporary interiors, the homeowners leaned more transitional in their taste. Rather than forcing a purely modern aesthetic, Sibel worked carefully to create a softer, more comfortable interpretation of contemporary coastal living.
The living room reflects that balance beautifully. Two Lory Recliner Sofas by Bracci anchor the space with deep comfort while still maintaining clean Italian lines. The homeowners wanted a home that felt livable, not like a showroom or museum, and these pieces helped achieve exactly that. Custom colors in the Imagine Rug by Modern Nature were selected to coordinate perfectly with the upholstery, bringing warmth and softness into the room.
Glass accents throughout the space help maintain an airy feeling without interrupting the ocean views. The layered L2 Coffee Table and sculptural Cut Side Table by Glassisimo add reflective surfaces and subtle glamour while keeping the room visually light.
Dining with a View
The dining area continues the relaxed sophistication seen throughout the home. Positioned within the newly opened floor plan, the space now fully benefits from both natural light and the ocean backdrop.
At the center sits the Myles Dining Table by Peressini, paired with the elegant Silhouette Dining Chair by Eforma. Together, they create a setting that feels polished enough for entertaining while remaining welcoming for everyday meals. The soft curves and tailored upholstery echo the home’s overall design language, blending transitional comfort with contemporary refinement.
A Cozy Conversation Area & Bar
Adjacent to the main living space, a secondary seating area creates a quieter moment within the home. Designed for casual conversation or evening cocktails, this corner balances texture, comfort, and flexibility.
The Judy Swivel Chair by Gurian, customized in a fabric selected specifically for the project, introduces softness and movement. Nearby, the Scoop Accent Table by Elite Modern provides a sculptural accent, while a pair of blue occasional chairs adds a subtle pop of coastal-inspired color. The overall effect feels intimate and relaxed, like a boutique hotel lounge tucked into the corner of the penthouse.
Media Room: Designed for Relaxation
The media room was designed as a comfortable retreat connected to the main living area. Existing built-ins remained in place, allowing the focus to shift toward creating a cozy environment for watching television and unwinding.
The Axel Recliner Chair by Fjords delivers ergonomic comfort while maintaining the clean aesthetic carried throughout the rest of the condo. Soft textures and relaxed seating arrangements help this room feel intentionally casual without sacrificing style.
Bedrooms with Softness and Serenity
In the primary bedroom, the design becomes quieter and more serene. Soft neutrals, layered textures, and understated furnishings create a calming atmosphere that supports rest and retreat.
The Frida Bed by Huppé anchors the room with an upholstered silhouette that feels both elegant and approachable. Matching Illusion Nightstands and Dresser by Trica reinforce the room’s clean lines, while the Grado Bench adds another layer of softness and practicality. Underfoot, the Static Flow Area Rug by Stanton introduces subtle movement and texture inspired by natural elements.
The guest bedroom follows a similar philosophy, balancing comfort with simplicity. A Haven Bed by Trica, paired with VIP storage pieces by Tomasella, creates a welcoming environment for visiting family and friends. The Clairbella Area Rug by Stanton adds warmth while complementing the home’s coastal palette.

Throughout the process, she carefully guided selections to ensure the home felt cohesive rather than overly eclectic, always prioritizing comfort and livability.
