Sustainable Furnishings Council

It gives us great pride in partnering with the Sustainable Furnishings Council. Currently at 14% progress towards our goal, we’re diligently working to reach 25% and beyond.

Sklar Furnishings is a proud member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and is thrilled to be recognized by the SFC and National Wildlife Federation with a high score on their Wood Furniture Scorecard in 2023. Today and every day, Sklar is committed to sustainability.

National Wildlife Federation

At Sklar Furnishings, we are committed to the responsible use of forest resources, including the wood used in our quality furniture. Therefore, we work with our suppliers on an ongoing basis to eliminate wood from improper sources and avoid sourcing illegal/controversial wood. Any wood harvesting in violation of indigenous or community rights goes against our beliefs at Sklar! Our main goal is to increase the amount of responsible wood (wood with a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and wood from recycled/reclaimed sources) procured over time.

The National Forest Foundation

Always going above and beyond, Sklar Furnishings partners in creating forests via the National Forest Initiative by donating a tree to one of Florida’s four natural forests for each purchase of a wood product. To-date, we have donated over 5000 trees and plan to continue providing for this great initiative in the future!

Community Greening

Sklar Furnishings is making a donation for all wood furniture we sell to Community Greening. This donation will help them continue their mission of making our community stronger, healthier, and greener!

Sklar continually seek ways to reduce energy consumption on our showroom floor.

  • Replaced all light bulbs with LED lighting.
  • Turn off all lights and technical equipment at the end of each day.
  • Replaced the trash receptacles with recycle bins in our showroom and offices to recycle paper and plastic. This costs more as we don’t have curbside recycling for business, but if it helps the environment we are willing to go the extra mile.

Sklar manages primary materials/services in a more sustainable direction.

  • Affiliate with furniture vendors and companies who manufacture furniture in a sustainable way.
  • Continuously ask new vendors how the furniture is made and what materials it contains.
  • Abide by SFC’s guidelines on the “What’s it made of?” Initiative.

Sklar educates and promotes the promise of sustainability.

  • Committed to recycling and eliminating excess paper usage.
  • Created a GREEN Committee to generate new ideas and ways to conserve energy and resources.
  • Provide all kinds of info for staff regarding places to donate personal items.
  • As well as being partners with Habitat, we donate products we can’t sell in the showroom and people reuse them. Nothing goes to waste!
