Recently we received some amazing new pieces from Italian manufacturers Potocco, and we’re excited to reveal them and talk about what makes Potocco special—they have a really cool history and so many gorgeous pieces.

Deep Design Roots

Potocco was founded by Domenico Potocco in 1919, specializing in the manufacture of chairs. From its humble roots as an artisanal chair manufacturer, the company grew rapidly in the postwar years to develop significant production capability. Today, they’re still renowned for their chairs and tables built for indoor and outdoor use.

Throughout over a century of existence, Potocco has remained a family-run business, and their growth didn’t come at the expense of their artisanal approach. Currently led by Antonino Potocco, and his daughters Alice and Marianna, Potocco is continuing a proud tradition of design excellence that has seen their reputation spread from Italy throughout the world.

Table 883

Table 883 is a study in circular proportions, and the overall effect is magical. A massive ash base supports a wide table top available in either ash or luxurious marble. Plenty of available finishes as well as a swivel plate option make the table extra functional, and flexible enough to complement any space—though it may dominate a space, as it’s got a seriously eye catching presence.

Velis Chair

Glass is one of the most interesting materials—resilient and yet fragile, it can be fully transparent or intriguingly opaque. Glassworking Legends

Glasstudio Borowski is renowned around the world for their lines of vibrant glass sculpture, statues, bowls, lamps, and vases. Founded in Poland by Stanislaw Borowski and his two sons Pawel and Wiktor in 1990, Glasstudio Borowski produces unique handmade glass art and accessories. Stanislaw has gained accolades since the 1970s for his work in glass art—his masterpieces can be found from Germany to Japan in galleries, museums, and design houses. His sons Pawel and Wiktor are also accomplished artists in their own right.

The pieces created at the studio are inspired by the Borowski style, a unique approach to glass art that emphasizes bold colors and unexpected shapes. The Borowski Style

The Borowski style of glass art takes much of its inspiration from natural forms, especially animals. Where glass art naturally leans towards floral or abstract representation, Borowski pieces demonstrate there is greater flexibility in the medium. Paired with the exploration of materials and animal forms is the use of bold colors and unexpected shapes, to consistently delight and surprise the eye.

This approach can be seen in the unique Chameleon decorative bowl, a bold piece that uses a small palette of colors to great effect. From the whorled tail, spiralling into infinity, to the open mouth, an almost causal mastery of glass blowing, sandblasting, etching, and design.

The Rhino outdoor statue reveals another side of the Borowski style: the mixing of mediums. Combining metal, glass, and electric light creates a truly whimsical and unique statue that can light up a garden both literally and figuratively.

Consider the Owl, a patient and capable animal. With these characteristics, the owl is not unlike an artist working in glass. In this piece, Glasstudio Borowski creates a playful rendition of the owl that functions equally well as a vase or can be left empty as a decorative accessory. The mottling of the glass is especially beautiful if allowed to catch natural light at certain angles.

SOUL Armchair

The SOUL armchair was created by blending contemporary materials and methods with the venerable techniques of yesteryear. By focusing on simplicity and minimalism, the design is functional, smooth, and very attractive. Built with an ash frame and polycarbonate seat, the timeless and timely are blended by the materials used, offering exciting combinations such as transparent seats with white or bleached ash finishes. SOUL is an ideal interior chair, elevating the space in which it’s used without cluttering or overcomplicating the visual mood, and outdoor models are also available to bring its stunning simplicity anywhere.

ELLIOT Table

Striking design and endearing simplicity are what make the ELLIOT table stand out. Using a minimalist approach creates a profile that is at once airy and substantial. An all-aluminum construction makes this table lightweight and easy to move. An assortment of powder coated finishes make this table suitable for setting different moods and functioning in a variety of situations. Outdoor and indoor suitability make this a flexible piece and excellent for lounges, restaurants, or even a side table at home.

The Tolomeo Reading Floor Lamp features a classic industrial design with clean, spare lines and a truly timeless appeal. Melampo Floor Lamp

Pirce Suspension Light

We’ve focused mainly on their floor lamps, but Artemide® has such a lovely range of other lights that we thought we’d share a taste. The Pirce Suspension Light is one such example: an enchanting study in illumination, demonstrating that simple shapes applied correctly can create a solid impression. Founded in 1992 by photographer Albi Serfaty and artist Ayala Serfaty, Aqua Creations catches inspiration in the sea and brings it onto land as sculptural lighting.
