What makes Italian furniture so exceptional and enduring? Famous for flamboyant fashion and impactful design, Italians pour the same level of care into their furniture as they do their wine, and like their fine wine, modern Italian furniture always seems to stand the test of time. And the bold, modern furniture designs of Giulio Mancini are no exception. He has proved that style is not about playing it safe, but about making a statement. And his statement pieces are nothing short of iconic.
At Sklar, we are pleased to present three of his most coveted creations for a room simply gleaming with modern glamour. Glass and chrome, wood or leather are design staples that mix well with traditional or modern furniture décor, and add a pop of interest to any room.
Dare to Dazzle
Tonelli’s Livingstone Extendable Dining Table by Mancini, is an arrestingly beautiful table with two glass leaves that extends outwards, to accommodate as many guests as you would like to dazzle. The extensions then fold neatly underneath, to save space when you’re not entertaining the multitudes.
Made of thick, tempered glass in transparent or extra-clear, the top floats over bold, structural legs, available in chrome, white or matte black lacquer, or covered in natural or dark leather, or Canaletto walnut, oak, or Wengè wood.
The strong, practical construction is a modern take on an antique Italian glass, demonstrating both the functionality of glass and its entrance into the world of art in modern furniture design. It’s no wonder it’s our most popular dining table.
The Bold Side
The Joliet Side Table is available in a bedside table version or a living room side table. The bold, contemporary lines of this well-designed side table are sculpted in a mix of glass and chrome. Multiple finishes and glass versions are available. Designed by Giulio Mancini, this side table is truly a work of art.
Cocktails, Anyone?
The Plinsky Coffee Table is another of Giulio Mancini triumphs. First designed in 2007 it continues to be among his most sought-after and striking pieces. Its bold, asymmetrical base creates a unique architectural design, folding over the glass top, as if to caress its surface. The Plinksy Coffee Table is available in chrome or white base finishes, topped in thick, tempered glass.
About the Designer
Many famed Italian furniture designers first trained as architects or industrial designers, infusing their furniture with an architectural aesthetic while still providing sleek functionality.
After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Bologna, Giulio Mancini became involved in an industrial design project through Marco Gaudenzi, sparking his enthusiasm for the industry. Giulio later worked with design firm Acanto, and established relationships with one of Europe’s most important players, providing industrial design for in-car stereo systems for the likes of Steg, Aloia,
and Boston Acoustics.
In 2002, Giulio Mancini began his partnership with graphic designer Nicola Sancisi, with whom he established the studio Nettodesign in Pesaro. Today, Mancini’s unique modern furniture creations are still reproduced by skilled glass craftsmen by Tonelli Design in Pesaro, Italy.
