Design your way

We recently finished a design project that was untraditional from just visiting our showroom to choose the furnishings. Our Design Associate Bianca was contacted to furnish a home that was still under construction for a client living in New York. This client asked Bianca if she could design with her virtually. The client never stepped foot in our showroom until after she had made her purchases and her home was complete.

Project & Process

Bianca’s first step with any client is finding a connection. She always takes the time to ask questions to the client and listen to the answers to be able to develop an understanding of their style. It is also important to understand how the home will be used. This was all done over the phone. Bianca utilized Facetime, Email and Texting to connect.

After getting to know the client and reviewing the floor plan, Bianca was able to visit the home while it was being built in order to take measurements. A designer’s job requires precision and knowing the dimensions and space allows a designer to choose pieces that work in the client’s space.

With dimensions in hand, Bianca was able to choose what she thought would work well for the client. It is hard for people to understand texture and fabrics. Bianca did her best to describe the texture and feel and also sent samples to the client so they could feel good about the decisions they were making.

The timing of furniture is hard today, as you want to make sure pieces all come in to be able to deliver a full house. With the construction we were able to have some added time for the project. It is important that we are able to deliver a finished product to our clients, but with pieces coming from all over the world, that can sometimes be a great challenge.

Creating Connections

Bianca always tries to establish a level of confidence between her and the client. Trust is especially important for a long distance project. The client has to trust that the Designer will deliver something that is right for the client and fits the vision they have.

Bianca was able to work with technology to build her connection. She was able to utilize different platforms. Bianca is very savvy on her phone and let’s her clients know they can reach her anytime!

Bianca was able to learn that her client would be using the space to have her children and grandchildren visiting which helped her furnish the space and the guest rooms. Bianca’s insights into style and preference allowed her and the client to finalize on pieces quickly.

When it came time to stage the space, we chose furniture carefully to build on a coastal contemporary theme. That means lots of blue and spa colors, curves, and glass. The client has a sophisticated taste and he loved everything that was chosen by our team with his input.

Design at Any Distance

Sklar Furnishings has continued designing for clients throughout the COVID pandemic. We feel we have adapted well and are utilizing more and more technology to help our clients. From displaying our projects on our website to staying connected with clients on FaceTime, there’s nothing in the way of Sklar delivering design excellence, no matter the distance!

Please enjoy our work firsthand in this Digital Tour – we’re very proud of this project! It’s a breathtaking space, and we believe our work uncovered its full potential.
