This Highland Beach residence is a testament to how meaningful design can unfold over time. When our long-time client began working with Sklar designer Oksana Doukhov, the aim was not a dramatic reinvention, but a gradual, collaborative evolution toward a more elevated, modern aesthetic while preserving the light, airy atmosphere the client had always loved.
Over the course of four years, Oksana guided a thoughtful, step-by-step transformation of the entryway, living room, and kitchen. From removing heavy shutters and introducing sleek, automatic blinds, to replacing the original wall-to-wall carpeting with light-toned engineered wood, each phase was designed to bring in more natural light and establish a cleaner, contemporary feel.
“The client was genuinely excited by the process,” Oksana explains. “It was about working together over time to create a space that felt both fresh and true to her spirit.”
Throughout the home, a neutral, light palette was maintained to honor the coastal character of the original design. Carefully chosen colorful accents and accessories were introduced to infuse the space with personality and warmth, reflecting the client’s cheerful, expressive style.
In the kitchen, timeless modern design found its place through an iconic Eero Saarinen dining table and chairs, a nod to enduring modernist elegance. To ground the area and soften the look, a custom rug from DellaRobbia was added, harmonizing beautifully with the updated finishes.
The living room now features Glamour Sofas from Bracci, delivering clean lines and exceptional comfort, along with Aura Recliners from Himola for style and functionality. Sculptural side tables from Interlude, floor lamps from Aqua Creations, and glass art by Borowski add visual interest and dimension, while Hunter Douglas automatic blinds support the relaxed, sophisticated ambiance.
This project is a clear illustration of how intentional, incremental changes can build a cohesive, enduring design. Through small yet impactful updates carried out over time, the space has evolved to feel personal, vibrant, and thoughtfully elevated — all while preserving its soul.
Ultimately, the Satterwhite project embodies Sklar’s design philosophy: a commitment to collaboration, attention to detail, and an approach that creates interiors perfectly attuned to each client’s lifestyle and vision.
