We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Sklar Studio, Sklar Furnishing’s new in-house design firm, offering creative interior design solutions. Sklar Studio is a dedicated space within our showroom that pairs our retail and merchandising expertise with high-level technical design led by our Vice President of Design, Camila Harasic.
Whether you’re looking to transform a single room or embark on a full-scale home renovation, Sklar Studio is here to bring your vision to life.
Our team begins every project with a comprehensive home consultation. The first step of the consultation involves taking laser measurements of the space. With the measurements obtained through the laser, hand-drawn floor plans are created on site.
Once the team is back at the studio, all the gathered information is transferred manually to AutoCAD and Rhinoceros. The softwares allows the team to use immersive 2D and 3D models to start building the project.
The next step is extremely important and involves the Sklar team to better understand the client’s style, preferences in color palettes, and finishes. Once we have this information, we present the client with our proposal at the Sklar Studio space. The proposal includes a visual presentation to give a better understanding of the look and feel of the space.
While working on your designs in person brings some advantages to the process, the Sklar Studio services are not limited to just South Florida. The team offers virtual services to ensure accessibility for all clients. With no limitations on the scope of work, the team caters to projects big and small, guiding you through every step of the design process.

Last year, LuAnn Warner-Prokos launched the incredible 40 Over 40 event, an empowering campaign supporting and recognizing women in our community and asked Sklar Furnishings to partner on this incredible journey. LuAnn Warner-Prokos is an award-winning photographer. Women always struggle to see the best in themselves. It is hard to see themselves the way the world does. LuAnn’s photography style aims to capture the essence of each woman’s individuality. She guides each participant, teaching them how to be a model, and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones. The result? Stunning portraits that reveal the inherent beauty within.

From April 2nd to 6th, 2022, Sklar attended the High Point Furniture Market to revel in some amazing new products from a multitude of talented vendors and designers.
The big story this Spring Market? Fabric, fabric, fabric! We noticed an overwhelming trend of bouclé fabric specifically, making its presence known at almost every booth. Although cream-colored bouclé seems to be dominating the market, an array of brighter colors were also being utilized by different designers.
The appeal of bouclé is simple: we all want comfort in our lives! Bouclé fabric has the appeal of a warm hug, enticing you to touch, pet, and cozy into the fabric for a cozy experience. Read more about how bouclé is bouncing back on Sklar’s blog.
Despite the strong appearance of bouclé, there were other incredibly innovative fabrics making their Spring arrival at High Point. Cut velvets, seriously stain-resistant super leather, chenilles, stencilled hairs and hides, alpaca fur, and fabulous cotton and linen prints also caught our eye as we made our way throughout the displays.
While making the rounds at High Market, we also spotted another trend to look out for this year: welting! Welting took the Spring market by storm, popping up with a variety of fabrics including leather and velvet to create a signature contrasting look. Whether the welting was on an armchair or a sectional, this simple feature can change a piece’s look dramatically.
Sklar was overjoyed to be back in person at the High Point Furniture Market, but the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the furniture and design industry was still evident. Although many vendors had new products to share, a large number of vendors had none. Many designers are still playing “catch up” from pandemic delays, and are focusing on getting old orders produced, shipped, and delivered before prioritizing new products. However, despite ongoing delays, we were thrilled to be back face-to-face with our vendors, seeing, touching, and trying out new products… with no Zoom calls in sight!

When we do Commercial projects, they have a very different feel from the kind of interior designing we do for residences.
When a business wants or needs to renew its spaces, they will reach out to design firms. There are many reasons for redesigning, from improving aesthetics and making a space more welcoming, to adding functionality, or updating. We feel that in today’s world, we will see changes on Social Distancing within the workspace. Changes in the landscape of a business can be very challenging—and rewarding!
Commercial Work: An Overview
Commercial work means designing for many people. This means there are a lot of variables to plan for. Public spaces also tend to have regulations and standards, and that affects which flooring, fabrics, finishes, and materials we can use. The durability of pieces used also becomes important depending on how many people will be using the space. We focus on aesthetics with residences—in commercial settings we also consider purpose.
Our process with commercial work is similar to other design work: we evaluate a space, create a floor plan, and come up with concepts which we present for approval. Communication is crucial to the process as normally many people need to approve the concept. Organization is also key, as everything has to be approved and planned before we start—down to the smallest details.
Commercial spaces are as personalized as residential, Sklar’s approach is curated to make the most of the space, maximize functionality and appeal, and ensure that each project is unique.
Past and Present Work
We have worked on a lot of Commercial Projects. One of our favorites was working with the women at the Junior League of Boca Raton. They came to us needing to update and refresh their lobby. We were able to create a relaxed space utilizing neutral colors and at the same time create a space for “Selfies” as well as showcasing the Donor Wall.
Currently we are working on two other lobby projects. The first is a total redesign for the lobby for the Casuarina condominium in Highland Beach, for which we are creating an updated sparkling and elegant impression. Our second project is furnishing the common areas for our partners, ALINA Residences.
Designing for All
Commercial work really hones a designer’s ability to think big while still focusing on the smallest details. The need for these spaces to serve many people forces the designer to consider durability as well as attractiveness of materials and pieces used. The extra demands on communication and purpose mean we have to think through everything.
Good commercial work is challenging, but also very rewarding. The fact that many people will be able to use and enjoy the space, and interpret its aesthetics differently, is very inspiring.
