Like many design trends from the 60’s and 70’s, grasscloth wallcoverings are back, but with some modern updates.

Made from woven plant fibers and some synthetic materials, they serve as the perfect vessel for jazzing up neutrals through texture. Another benefit of grasscloth is that it suits all spaces from contemporary to traditional, so it will have longevity. Modern offerings provide a wider selection than ever before, so no need to feel tied down to an earthy color palette.

Here’s the scoop on 2015’s take on the trend:

Woven in metallics: Mix the earthy vibes of grasscloth with the fashionable glam of metallics. The mix of textures and colors look particularly smashing when juxtaposed against reclaimed wood furniture like the Sorrento Buffet.

Saturated color: Today’s grasscloth comes in more than just neutral browns and beiges. You can now find it in sumptuous hues of almost any color.

Patterns and prints: Keeping up with the times and the desire for elaborate wallpaper, you can now find grasscloth with embroidered patterns and prints varying, from gorgeous and classic, to funky and show stopping. Grasscloth with prints or embroidering creates a texture-on-texture look that takes center stage in any room.

How to Use It: Aside from covering the entire room, you can use hits of grasscloth to add a dash of extra texture, creating a more layered and dimensional space. Try using it behind shelving, or to cover the backs of bookshelves. It makes a great foundation for an accent wall, and looks sharp when applied below chair rails. We’ve even seen it applied to the tabletop of an entranceway console, giving the piece new life.

Sklar offers a wide selection of grasscloth wall coverings. Whether you’re looking for classic neutrals or rich color, we can help you find what you’re looking for.
