High Point Market: Fall 2021 Review

High Point Fall Market 2021 was blessed with warm weather and sunny skies—pair that with lots of new products and vendors, reps, designers, and retailers alike grateful for some true “FaceTime”, and you have a success story.

Small Crowds, Big Offerings

Naturally, numbers were low and many of the Canadian and European manufacturers were missing—however, the showrooms were populated with their representatives and a considerable amount of new furniture.

Sklar Furnishings committed to some wonderful new offerings which will be exciting to place in the showroom.

Trendspotting

It is always fun to shop at any market and by the end of each day we challenge ourselves to come up with trends that may have emerged. This year was exceptionally easy. Here is what our buying team came up with.

Trend One: Softer Shapes

Soft rounded shapes with a few hard corners. This seems to be a throwback to the ’50s and is expressed by gorgeous pieces like the Blake Sofa and Julep Sofa. We feel some of this is coming from people wanting to be comfortable at home and some a return to the past.

Trend Two: Softer Fabric

Right in the same ballpark were comforted fabrics like feathers, fake fur, and boucle. Almost every vendor has their version of boucle in all kinds of different colors. Boucle looks especially good on these rounded shapes, and since it tailors beautifully is a perfect choice. Just check out the texture on the unforgettable Marabù Armchair.

Trend Three: Light it Up

Lighting was featured and many of the soft goods and case goods vendors had dipped their toe in the water by introducing some lighting. We found it whimsical and fun!

The Half Moon Mirror is an artful accessory that obscures part of its mirror face with leather elements or etched glass touches. In groups, these create a cohesive effect, and used singly they’re an eye-catching element.

Trend Four: Fall Colors

As far as colors go, as always there were all the tones of grey but with a nod to the Europeans from Milan a couple of years ago. The earth tones are showing up—beiges, orange and green. Blue is a constant—everything from the deepest navy to the softest turquoise. The Kailua Bed epitomizes the restful color tones we saw at High Point Market.
