With its ethereal and futuristic appearance, Philippe Starck's Uncle Jim Armchair is a great example of his work as a designer. An experimental design is the use of transparent high-quality polyethylene moulded in one single piece to give the impression that the sitter is hovering in the air. As a result of the construction method, the chair is not only durable but also strong enough to be used both indoors and out.
