The Art of Contrast: Elevating a Monochrome Home

We recently completed another project that demonstrates the essence of how we work, the tact and judgment of our design team, and their ability to complete a client’s space to meet and exceed expectations.

The clients recently purchased a home in Boca Raton and were introduced to Sklar through our Elite Real Estate program. They arrived at the showroom and spoke with Carolyn Gross, one of our Design Associates, and Camila Harasic, our Vice President of Design, about remodelling and refurnishing their home. They mentioned that everything in their home was white with black accents. They visited Sklar to explore furnishings for their dining room and living room.

Sensing a theme, Carolyn and Camila showed them one of our Il Loft settings, highlighting a particular tweed fabric in black and white. The client was enraptured with the Milanese design firm’s unique pieces and timeless styling. Bonding over their shared love for fashion, Camila used the iconic Chanel blazer as an example of how a simple palette can make a bold statement—just like in home design.

Camila and Carolyn offered an in-home consultation to take measurements and look at the space in person. After the visit, Camila and Carolyn put together a detailed design presentation which included floorplans, technical drawings and 3D models of the space.

A Distinguished Dining Room

A Skorpio Dining Table acts as the centerpiece of the dining room—its dramatic and architectural base, paired with the rounded tabletop in a dark wood finish provide a stunning contrast to the white room. These effects pair perfectly with the dramatic lines of Origami Dining Chairs in white leather, complemented by the dark legs.

Our designers contrasted the geometric and architectural furniture with organic and rounded accessories. The Hawaii Magnum Mirror introduces more light into the room and provides a softening contrast to the angles. The Cloud Chandelier also pulls double duty, providing light, curves, and an organic feel.

An Elegant Living Room

The living room is anchored by the Super Roy sofa from Il Loft. This dramatic form includes both angular elements and flowing lines, making it visually arresting—it’s customized for a precise fit in the room. Two Next Armchairs face the sofa, both finished in a chic black and white houndstooth fabric.

The two-part John Low coffee table provides a continuation of the color motif and a curvaceous focal point. The Kya End Table builds on the minimalist themes and fits perfectly with the chairs. To round out the living room are three Torc triple pendant lights in satin black and white, thoughtfully installed to maximize their effect for those on the ground floor, second floor, or floating staircase between them.

Two Rooms, Two Colors, One Outcome

Working within the constraints of the space and the clients’ tastes, Camila and Carolyn created an interior which both builds on the home’s strengths and contrasts them to great effect. Their masterful work speaks volumes about their talent and capability.

The exclusive use of white for walls, ceilings, and floors creates a crisp and modern aesthetic, and our designers expertly balanced it with warmth and style to ensure a welcoming space. The living room is a chic, modern refuge that’s neither too stark nor too busy. The dining room, enhanced by a few carefully chosen and finished pieces, exudes a marvellous sophistication that is still welcoming.
