Want to create a look in your home where people smile just looking at the item? Look no further! We have a wonderful vendor located in the United States who makes rugs, pillows and throws from recycled and upcycled materials.
We all know what recycling is – as defined in Webster’s dictionary “to treat or process used or waste materials so as to make suitable for reuse: recycling paper to save trees”
Upcycling was first coined in William McDonough’s book Cradle to Cradle and is described by some as reusing a material without degrading the quality and composition of the material for its next use. When plastic bottles are recycled, for instance, most often they cannot be turned back into containers associated with anything that can be ingested due to the risk of things seeping into the plastic. As a result, these usually become carpets, or toys, or winter fleeces: things that will eventually also become trash. Recycling has simply prolonged the inevitable by stretching out our waste stream and made the lifecycle costs of the material a bit less.
This company has been so creative – they have pillows made from elastic bands, rugs made from old ties, pillows with old zippers, pillows and rugs with loops stuffed with scraps from the nylon hosiery industry. The colors are vibrant and fun and the prices are very reasonable. Lately they have created a whole line of fake furs. I guarantee you will think they are real, sometimes we have a hard time convincing an animal lover that they are fake – they have a beautiful sheen like the real item. Their fake outdoor leather can be hosed off and keeps its color longer than you will believe.
Jazz up your space this spring with some fun inexpensive items such as these and make your home as much fun as it is beautiful!
