At the 2023 Salone del Mobile, sustainability was a major focus for many of our furniture partners. Sklar Furnishings has seen many partners transform into finding more eco-friendly practices and using new methods to lower their carbon footprint.
One of our favorite exhibitors, Tumidei, has been very proactive in the last year in making changes that lower their company’s personal carbon footprint. They introduced a new logo speaking to the changes they are making in their manufacturing processes. They use organic paint made from vegetable waste, solar energy to power their factories, and CARB Phase 2 certified panels with formaldehyde emissions below 0.09 ppm that protects humans. Even their wood shavings and production scraps are recycled to generate thermal energy and fulfill their internal needs.
Kartell has long been an innovator in sustainability, continuously finding creative ways to reduce their environmental footprint. A great example of this is their joint venture with Illycaffè, in which they take used coffee pods and repurpose them into a material used to make chairs. Kartell is now exploring the possibility of transforming black oil into a usable material.
Glass is one of the best green materials and was on display in many of our vendors. Glass makes a great option for those looking for an eco-friendly alternative. Many vendors have found new and inventive ways to use glass, from furniture to fixtures.
Sustainable practices are becoming increasingly significant in the furniture industry. Sklar Furnishings is proud to provide sustainable products and support companies. We look forward to new materials and technologies continuously being created by our partners.
