A Refreshing Redesign: Transforming GALLERYone

Commercial projects are a great opportunity to show off our design ability, wow our clients, and delight their customers and staff. Our clients’ brands are invaluable to them, and our goal is always to create brand experiences that delight their customers and staff and elevate the brand.

GALLERYone is a condo hotel that overlooks the intercoastal waterway at the Sunrise Bridge in Fort Lauderdale. The Highrise was built in 1986 and has 256 units, that are mainly one bedroom. The goal for this project was to update the common area spaces and create a warm and inviting feel by the water. The project included the front desk, a coffee area, the restaurant, and bar. Linda Paton, our Vice President of Customer Relations was the lead designer on the project.

The first task was to create a color palette that would become the visual foundation for the project. Using the colors from the water and sand, Linda created a combination that would blend well with the current flooring yet provide a more relaxing and calm atmosphere for visitors. She knew she wanted furniture that was usable as well as wearable. Ownership tasked her with creating a fun sports bar atmosphere where the guests can gather and enjoy gameday!

The process needed to be done quickly while the hotel was open. Work had to be done at times when guests were not using the areas. Linda and her team worked to make sure as furniture and fixturing was being removed, the new items followed closely behind.

When you enter the hotel to your right, you are now greeted with an updated redesigned front desk. Textured wallpaper brings warmth to the wall behind while schools of fish swim by. The lobby continues on the left with comfortable chairs and sofas. The Le Beaumont Chair lines the windows where you can wait for your friends or watch the time go by. The coordinating blue rug with the Le Beaumont Sofa and Marshmallow Poufs looks like the ocean has rushed in to whisk you away to the beach. Framed artwork from our partners, Masters Fine Art, throughout the hotel provides a pop of color for a coastal contemporary vibe.

The previous bar was dark and uninviting. By removing an overhead element, refacing the bar, adding bright Schema pendant lights and hanging multiple televisions, the bar was transformed into a fun place to hang out. We added a shuffleboard, pool table and new seating with the Le Cournoyer Sectional and Day Barstools to give guests a place they can enjoy!

The Coffee Bar was also redesigned to be updated and create multiple areas for seating. The Damien Lounge Chair with its abaca rope twisted by hand provides just that. The chairs pair perfectly with the Astoria Coffee Tables to provide a comfortable space for your morning brew.

The restaurant needed to become inviting as well as functional. The original colors and layout were old and dated with a spectacular view that Linda wanted to highlight. Using the Cubo Tables and Sara II Dining Chairs along with bringing in wallpaper, artwork, and even reconfiguring the waitstaff station and buffet bar, she was able to create a welcoming space for the guests to enjoy their breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Commercial projects are very different from Residential as you have to work to keep the brand image envisioning the functionality of the space. Materials are chosen for their wearability and durability as well as look and comfort. We have vendor partnerships that allow us to find striking, commercial-grade pieces that stand up to daily use, and the experience to deliver stunning projects on budget and on time.

Redesign projects for residential buildings are not new to Sklar, but executing a project while a building is inhabited does present some challenges.
